From a CD Baby Review: "The haunting lyric quality of this CD grabs and holds you. From the first
chords of THINGS I'VE ALWAYS KNOWN, you know you have found a gem in this CD. The
haunting lyric quality of the selections sung with the artist's strong, yet gentle baritone gives a
consistency throughout leaving you wanting more. From original Irish tunes to personal vignettes,
this is a winner."

Reviews
E-reviews of concerts and albums:
"I think your song Hippies is a masterwork, an epic."
"He did a song called
Shipwrecked last night... and it 'wrecked me..,' He introduced it by saying that it was inspired
by some of Dylan's best story songs. Well I'm here to tell you it was right up there with them."
---
Joe Rathburn, Folkey Monkey at Milano's

"I was extremely taken with 'Shipwrecked.' What a great song. The imagery is so classic... The mark of  a
memorable song to me is the desire to learn it and sing it. This one is in that league."
---
Paul Espinoza of Golden Bough

“Your voice and style are fabulous. Not many voices can capture Leonard Cohen-like sweet and deep vibrations, but
yours does in its own unique and delightful way. I find it hypnotizing in a way,  takes me somewhere else.
And, your lyrics are fun to think about too.”

"Irish Folk Songs and the Stories They Tell-- a unique class"
The third session of our class starts February 9 at La Mesa Enrichment Center, "Irish Folk
Music: Culture and History through Story Songs," a 9-week course on many topics Irish
through Ireland's rich repertoire of folk songs. We will meet for 9 weeks on Tuesday nights at
7:00 pm .  Please call 619.464.0505 or go to City of La Mesa http://www.cityoflamesa.com/ and
look for the Adult Enrichment Classes. It is under Adult Specialty.

Each week I will  perform traditional and popular songs from the Irish folk repertoire.  Cheryl
will add to it presenting topics from an anthropology/archaeology perspective.
We had a great time the first session exploring Irish culture, singing Irish songs while drinking
famous Barry's Irish tea in the cozy cottage at the adult center. We also enjoyed recordings of
many of the legendary performers of Irish folk. And this Shindig (seinut-theach) is the Bee's
Knees (beas nuiosach) Dude (dud) and all that Jazz (teas). It is great fun and we learn a lot along
the way--the craic is indeed at least 90.
Here are some of the topics:
Topic 1: The Enduring Irish Image: Come to the Bower
a. the Fairy folk and other pre-Christian mythology; b. the Irish rebel: the Troubles; c. the Blarney
Stone: tourism and hospitality; d. the stories, humor and wit: the great tradition of the Bard;
e. word play: the twists and turns of the Irish context; f. the Water of Life, Craic and the Public House
g. The Irish Diaspora

Topic 2: The Irish experience of Americans
a. Danny Boy and Celtic Woman go to the River Dance; b. The Wearing of the Green Beer: a St.
Paddy’s Day; c. Tura lura lura: Irish cops, Irish priests and me old Irish grandma; d. Returning to the
Roots: the homeland and the potato famine

Topic 3: Archetypal Irish folk characters
a. the lovable rogue; b. the passionate patriot; c. Irish women: flirty maiden, spurned woman,
victimized good girl; d. The wry and wise town forum
